RESULTS OF THE RUSSIAN YOUNG MINING SPECIALIST COMPETITION

“FROM IDEA TO INNOVATION”

Organised Within the Framework of the
7th International Mining Forum “MINEX RUSSIA 2011”

In 2010 “MINEX Russia Forum” www.minexrussia.com in cooperation with the Mining Educational and Methodological Association of Russian Universities (EMA) www.rmpi.ru introduced an initiative “Mining University – Mining Business” with the aim to facilitate contacts and mining career advice to the young mining professionals and graduates of the Russian Mining Universities and Faculties.

The program of activities included Master Classes and HR consultations organised for Mining Students on 4 October and also the mainstream plenary session “Developing Russia’s mining human resources” organised on 6 October at the forum

To encourage research and innovation among the Russia’s mining students and young specialists MINEX forum organisers and EMA have also launched this year an annual national young mining professional research paper competition called “From Idea to Innovation”. Research and scientific papers of undergraduates and postgraduates of Russian mining higher education institutions aged below 25 years were accepted to participate in the competition.

  5. Kirill Andreevich Kozenyashev, Head of Strategic Development Department, Severstal-Resource OJSC;
  6. Vladimir Nikolaevich Suchenko, Professor, Doctor of Engineering Science, Head of Geodesy and Mine Surveying Department, People’s Friendship University of Russia;
  7. Genrich Alexandrovich Kholodnyakov, Professor, Doctor of Engineering Science, Saint Petersburg technical University of Technology (TU);
  8. Mikhail Ivanovich Leskov, Advisor to Director General, Atomredmetzoloto OJSC

The first stage of the Competition was organised by the Mining Educational and Methodological Association of Russian Universities (EMA) and Moscow State Mining University which selected over 600 works qualification works presented by over 30 Russian Mining Universities and Geological Faculties. At the second stage the Committee members reviewed works of the 18 finalists presented by Siberian Federal University, Magnitogorsk State Technical University n.a. Nosov, Saint Petersburg State Mining University, Moscow State Mining University, Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Perm State Technical University, Norilsk industrial Institute, Tula State University.

Completion works were evaluated using a ten-point scale. Names, titles of works and names of universities and institutes were encrypted. After the competition results were announced, the Mandate Commission decrypted the works and presented five winners.

  4. Evgeny Alexandrovich Novikov, Moscow State Mining University, “Development of Television Equipment with Laser-Based Picture Orientation System for Drill-Hole Survey on Mining Plants”;
  5. Ivan Alexandrovich Pasechnik, Moscow State Mining University, “Innovative Solutions in Modeling the Deformation of Rock Massif Weakened by Stope Ores”.

The winners presented their works on October 04, 2011 and received certificates and valuable prices presented by the Committee members and Competition sponsors: Severstal OJSC, Atomredmetzoloto OJSC, SRK Consulting (Russia) Ltd.; Mining Forum MINEX Russia.

All competition finalists (18 persons) were awarded with honorary diplomas.
